Veiled Chameleon Care Sheet

~ diurnal, arboreal, insectivorous ~

Size:

Adult males are about 18 - 19.5'', while females are generally only 11.5 - 14''. Hatchlings range from 2.3 - 3'' Total Length.

Life span:

Males live from about 4 to 5 years old and Females live about a year younger. Just remember: Laying clutches is very taxing on the lizard and it will live a shorter life.

General Appearance:

Like I said, Males are generally bigger, but also have a bigger "veil" on its head. Colors also usually seem to contrast more on the males.

Enclosure:

Veiled Chameleons are arboreal reptiles, which means they prefer climbing vertically rather than horizontally. Also, all enclosures for chameleons should have mesh or screen walls on at least three sides. Chameleons need a very well-circulated enclosure. Hatchlings can be kept in a 10 gallon tank, but this is not recommended. But, if you could stand it up on its side, that would be more efficient. Adults should live in

Temperature Range

They thermo regulate like other reptiles, which means they do not produce their own body heat, and there for need an external heat source.

Substrate:

Anything that holds humidity is fine. Cypress mulch, Beaked moss, etc.

Diet:

They are insectivorous. This means strictly insects. Crickets, super worms, meal worms, and small roaches work great. Wax worms can be used to put a little weight back on them, but don't feed too many. Just a few every couple days for not much longer than a week is fine. Make sure you dust all food items every day with sufficient calcium and vitamin D3.
